JDR Motorex KTM sweeps Broadford MX Nationals Pro Lites podium to start 2011

JDR Motorex KTM has claimed a stellar clean sweep of the Pro Lites podium in the opening round of the Rockstar Energy Drink MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, at Broadford in Victoria today.

Former national champion Matt Moss lead the orange trifecta at the head of the Pro Lites field, taking the overall victory with 1-2-2-1 results after four hotly contested motos at the undulating Broadford venue.

For Moss, his return to Australian soil marked a dream start following a season spent in the United States in 2010. It also marked a strong beginning to the season for KTM’s defending champion 250 SX-F, which won the title in the hands of American PJ Larsen last season.

“It was the first time I’ve done these formats with four races back-to-back and I felt really good,” 22-year-old Moss said. “It’s good that all three of us are on the podium for KTM and we’ll keep working hard to stay here on top.”

Rising star Brenden Harrison consistently featured amongst the front of the field and commenced 2011 on the podium in second overall with 3-5-5-3 results in his return from a broken femur.

“I got four good starts and it really helped,” the Queenslander said. “The team went 1-2-3 for the round, so all in all it was a good day and I’m ecstatic for them.”

Rounding out the podium for KTM was current Under 19s champion Josh Cachia, who showed scintillating speed all day to score 2-17-1-6 finishes. His race two result was due to a first lap fall.

“It was a solid result and a good way to start the season,” the Kilmore local commented. “I was stoked to get my first moto win in the third race and look forward to round two.”

Making a solid Pro Open debut aboard KTM’s 350 SX-F today was Wollongong resident Ryan Marmont, claiming fifth overall in treacherous muddy conditions after a storm lashed the complex as the Open proceedings commenced. Marmont stunned in the first of four back-to-back 15-minute motos by racing to second in his first ever national Pro Open outing.

“The day went pretty good and I’m content to finish with a top five overall,” the 25-year-old said. “The mud was horrendous, but I felt like I had good speed and I really enjoyed my Pro Open debut.”

Queenslander Dan Reardon endured a frustrating return to Australia with JDR Motorex KTM alongside Marmont in the Opens, scoring 11th overall after experiencing a stroke of bad luck, but promising that he’ll bounce back for round two.

“It wasn’t the best day for me and we ran into a lot of problems,” 2007 series champion Reardon said. “The conditions were tough, but sometimes the first round is like this and I think we’ll be fine. I’ll go back to the States and do some more training now, so I think we’ll come back a lot better for Appin.”

Last year at the Broadford round, JDR Motorex KTM team rider Andrew McFarlane tragically lost his life in a practice incident, the team competing in memory of their fallen star to open the 2011 season.

Round two will take place at Appin’s Macarthur Motorcycle Club in New South Wales on 3 April.
